Just after the end of the War in Europe, Peter McAuslane, senior male member of the Prestilloch line of McAuslands, and father of Helen McAuslane, who would be granted arms in 1963, made an application for an Ensign Armorial to the Lord Lyon King-At-Arms, which was granted. This article completes our investigation into the four grants of Arms to McAuslands between 1863 and 1965.

Ensign Armorial recorded in the Public Record of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland (Vol. 45 folio 42):
Excerpt of Letter Patent from the Lord Lyon King at Arms, in favour of Peter McAuslane, Esquire, dated the 25th day of June 1945.
Whereas Peter McAuslane, Esquire, residing at No. 21 Menteith Row, Glasgow, Mercantile Clerk, hath by petition unto us, Shewn: That he was born at Glasgow on the 27th August 1886, and married there, on 25th February 1910, Helen, youngerst daughter of the late Andrew McGeorge, Edinburgh, and has issue.
That he is the eldest son of the late George McAuslane, needle maker in Glasgow, and his wife (married 4th January 1886 – (Sic: actually 31st January 1885)), Mary, daughter of Thomas Murdison, dyer in Glasgow, and his wife Agnes Kirkwood.
That the Petitioner’s father, the said John McAuslane, born at Bonhill, Alexandria in Dunbartonshire 1802 & died at 10, Troon Street, Glasgow 23rd December 1934, was eldest son of Peter McAuslane, Calico Printer, and his wife Rose Williamson, who died at 354 London Road, Glasgow in 1876 (i.e. Peter, not Rose).
That the petiotioner’s Grandfather, the said Peter McAuslane, born circa the year 1820 & died at 354 London Road, aforesaid on 11th November 1876, was the eldest son (a younger son, born circa 1827, the Reverend Alexander McAuslane, D.D., later of Washington, U.S.A., had a son James McAuslane, born at Dunfermline 1854, who recorded Arms – Or, a lion rampant Sable, a chief chequey Azure & Argent in the Public Register of All Arms & Bearings in Scotland on 26 October 1891) of Peter McAuslan(e), also Calico printer in Glasgow, and his wife Mary, who died 21st November 1876 aged 76 years, daughter of Malcolm McCallum and his wife Mary, daughter of John McColl and his spouse Isabella Stewart, who, according to family tradition was daughter (sic – more likely granddaughter) of Alexander Stewart, 4th Laird of Ballachelish:
That the Petitioner’s gt-gt-grandfather, the said Peter McAslan, was the son of Peter McAuslan, Prestalloch, Glen Douglas in the Parish of Luss, who, by family tradition, was the son of Humphrey McAuslan of Prestalloch, who was the son of Alexander McAuslan of Prestalloch, and that the family of McAuslane had owned Caldenoch, from time immemorial appears from the Sasine registere 20 May 1664 in the Geberal Register of Sasines & numerous other entries in that & in the Particular Register of Sasines for Argyll & other public documents & from the Luss Charters.
And the Petitioner having prayed that We would Grant Our Licence & Authority with him and unto his descendants to bear and use such Ensigns Armorial as might be found suitable & according to thes Laws of Arms. Know Ye, therefore, that We have Devised & Do, by These Present Assign, Ratify and Confirm unto the Petitioner, and unto his descendants with such congruent differences as shall hereafter be matriculated for them, the following Ensigns Armorial as depicted upon the margin hereof and matriculated of even date with these Presnts upon the 42nd folio of the 35th Volume o Our Public Register of All Arms & Bearings in Scotland, Vizt:-
Or, a lion rampant Sable, a chief enarched chequy Azure and Argent. Above the shield is placed an helment befitting his Degree with a mantling Sable doubled Or & on a Wreath of his Liveries is set for Crest:- a dexter hand charged with a besant holding up a ducal coronet within two laurel branches disposed orleways – proper, and in an Escrol over the same this Motto: AUDACES JUVO.
